Kim John Payne has worked for 24
years as a counselor, adult educator, consultant/researcher and
educator helping children, adolescents and families explore issues such
as social difficulties with siblings and classmates, attention and
behavioral issues at home and school, emotional issues such as
defiance, aggression, addiction and self-esteem.
Arising out of a deep interest in leadership and change, he has worked with organizations as large as UK Royal Postal Service, Ford Motor Company, Proctor and Gamble to small businesses and not for profits.
The founder of the
Social Inclusion Approach, a method of overcoming anti-social behavior causing exclusion and isolation which has been implemented in many
communities both on the child and adult levels. He was the Co Director of an extensive research project,
exploring and developing a drug free approach to Attention Related
Disorders.
He was the Founding Director of 'The Challenge of
Adolescence,' a training course for therapists, teachers and parents;
the Founding Co Director of the Eastern European Institute of Spatial
Dynamics (Hungary) and the Co Director of the Michael Institute of
Spatial Dynamics (England). Currently, Kim is Project Director of
the Collaborative Counseling Program at Antioch
University New England, a course aimed at training future Waldorf
School & Family Counselors and teachers to better understand social
and emotional issues of children, teens and families in support of home and
school life. He consults in businesses, colleges, clinics and schools throughout
the USA and abroad, helping managers, teachers and parents remove emotional and
social obstacles.
The author of the
book `The Games Children Play,' (1996) Hawthorn Press and "Simplicity Parenting"
(2009) Ballantine Books/Random House, he is currently working on a
new book - The Soul of Discipline.
He lives with his wife and two daughters in Northhampton, Massachusetts. Kim is the
Founding Director of The Center for Social Sustainability. He has been featured in Time Magazine, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, Mothering and Parenting Magazines, BBC, NBC, Fox & ABC television and is a regular guest on National Public Radio.
